Rothbury Community Church values membership, sees it as a biblical concept, and uses it as a means to accomplish many purposes, including:
Providing affirmation of who the true Church is as expressed in this local church. Belonging to a local church provides greater proof of an individual’s claim of being a follower of Jesus Christ for there is a group of believers vouching for that claim (3 John 3).
Providing doctrinal compatibility in the local church. Being a member of Rothbury Community Church includes holding to certain doctrinal commitments, and that provides fellowship of likeminded believers in Christ (Jude 3).
Demonstrating commitment to other believers. It shows an intention to actively serve, pray for, etc. other believers who have committed to do the same for others (Romans 12:10; 1 Peter 4:10).
Showing a desire for accountability, both to the elders and to the membership of the local church. It reveals a humble heart that is aware of its sinful tendencies and need for help in walking in faithfulness (Galatians 6:1; Hebrews 13:17).
Declaring the beauty of Christ and his bride. The ultimate purpose of all of life, whether it be for an individual or for a local church, is to bring glory to God. Membership gives a practical avenue to express one’s commitment to Christ who “loved the church and gave himself up for her” (Ephesians 5:25).
Our calling is "Becoming Committed Followers of Jesus Christ." What does this look like for a member of RCC? It looks like someone dedicated to:
Faithfully attending and participating in Sunday morning and evening services, gathering with the body.
Purposefully and regularly seeking out and investing in the lives of other members of the church.
Consistently taking advantage of biblical education offered through the church, growing in their faith.
Actively serving the church through praying, volunteering, giving, evagenlizing, etc.
